2nd July 2008 - Samsung launch NetPrint Version 4
For the past 3 years Samsung have used NetPrint to provide their UK dealers with an on-line marketing platform, encouraging them to promote their brand and enhance their sales efforts.
Mark Ivans, Senior Marketing Manager at Samsung is now launching NetPrint Version 4 and expanding the on-line solution into Samsung’s European dealer network. He explains why:
“NetPrint offers dealers the ability to adapt a range of mailers, leaflets and brochures. Each contains pre-set text about Samsung products but enables dealers to personalise the benefits for their target markets. Available 24/7 on the dealer extranet, and with no additional hardware or software required, dealers can access NetPrint and adapt the easy to use templates.
Dual-branding also helps a dealer to promote their business, as well as giving choice from a range of pre-approved Samsung product and brand imagery. NetPrint Version 4 has a cleaner and more sophisticated interface which makes the creation of documents even easier for our dealers. We also have the added benefit of being able to build the templates ourselves with the unique ‘template creation’ function in version 4.”
1st July 2008 - Blackwell expand NetPrint with version 4
“NetPrint is currently used for the production of POS marketing material for Blackwell Book stores throughout the United Kingdom. A watchful eye on the local store marketing budget means design and artwork costs need to be kept to a minimum for individual stores as often as possible.
NetPrint has allowed Blackwell stores to create a range of POS material. From shelf headers and A3 posters to invitations for book signings, £100's of artwork costs are saved by stores each month.
The Blackwell stores do not need to worry about the delivery of the final PDF to our designated printers because NetPrint does that for them – it’s a seamless order process for all POS material. We are now launching Version 4, a more advanced package that will enable us to create more master templates at even lower cost.”

1st June 2008 - Drupa dip News Release
NetPrint is a web-to-print system intended for use by corporate marketing departments and their dealer networks. It includes strong formatting and brand-management tools. Although it is new to the market, it is not a new system. It was developed by Abstract’s parent, Tutorcell Ltd, starting in 1999 and has been used ever since by printing customers. Now, Abstract is bringing it out to the general market. NetPrint is an ASP application, meaning that you only need a web browser to use it. It runs on Abstract’s server.
The feature set is impressive. The focus is on brand management, so there are good template-building tools, supplemented with a comprehensive system of rights and permissions. Key corporate-identity features, such as logos and background colors, can be “frozen,”
while other aspects of the document remain editable. It is also possible to give one class of users (those who have been through a training course, for example) more editing capabilities than other users. The text-editing and image manipulation features are unusually flexible.
Text blocks and images can be freely rotated, for example. All manipulation is WYSIWYG, rather than the fill-in-the-form approach taken by some systems. Images can be resized, and the system warns of insufficient resolution if the enlargement is too big. Rotation and enlargement, like other formatting tasks, are done interactively with the mouse. The text tools have Unicode support (which permits languages like Chinese, Japanese and Korean to be used).
The system, which also incorporates an image library, is written entirely in Flash. Support for variable-data print jobs is not currently provided. NetPrint is available to print buyers directly from Abstract. The special drupa pricing is £10,000 to start (this includes providing a custom “skin,” setting up users and permissions, and 750 output files). After that, the annual cost is £2,000
Beyond the print-buying audience, one of the company’s objectives in coming to drupa is to find resellers. These could include graphic arts distribution companies and printers.
